People in Silkeborg Municipality participate in sports using halls, facilities and the fields in the towns and in the country. A vast number of volunteers from various associations literally create the setting every time they prepare for a new match. Throughout the Municipality, boys and girls and grown-ups of all ages meet on football fields, handball fields, at the volleyball net and on the badminton court. They go swimming indoors and outdoors, they do gymnastics, train karate, cycle on roads large and small, play tennis and use the many versatile association activities.
Mass sports are for everyone of all ages and with top sports, there’s always something to aspire to. The flagships of football and handball are SIF and BSV, respectively. In Silkeborg, the desire for a new stadium is right now moving into the realisable phase. With the new JYSK Arena, Silkeborg Municipality has an excellent venue for major sports and cultural events. And after the rebuilding and extension of the previous halls, the Arena now seats more than 2,600 spectators which makes it a fitting home ground for BSV.
Arena Midt in Kjellerup opened in 2010 and has since then provided the setting for a wide range of major sports events and the flexible Arena has also housed concerts, fairs, exhibitions, conferences and much more. Arena Midt is a multipurpose hall for 3,500 standing spectators or 1,920 seating spectators, and in the case of other cultural events, the hall stands up to the very best in Denmark.
SIF and BSV market Silkeborg with every goal. The associations are ambassadors to the city and Municipality in football and handball, respectively, but they are not the only ones. Silkeborg is at the forefront in water sports and in various other sports, and Team Danmark has chosen Silkeborg as one of the collaborating Municipalities to develop and support local talent environments to ensure optimum development of the young talents.
Sports collaboration with business life is close with sponsors, special business clubs and networks regarding the indoors and outdoors sports fields. However, business life does not only support top athletes where they are certain to be promoted on television and in the national newspapers. Local business life literally makes its mark on boards and sports clothes in the lower ranks and help ensure the financial basis for the activities of children and young people where the key aspect is the social one and where sports form the framework of healthy and cosy meetings on and next to the field.
